Non-Immigrant O (Retirement)

The holder of this type of visa is allowed to stay in Thailand for 90 days.
Employment of any kind is strictly prohibited.

Applicants applying for a Non-Immigrant O visa for retirement purposes must be at least 50 years of age and above and receive a monthly pension income of 65,000 baht (approximately 20,000 NOK after-tax).

Required Documents

  • 1. Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months.

  • 2. Photograph of the applicant, taken within the past six months.

  • 3. Financial evidence in English: applicant’s bank statement showing a balance in the amount of not less than 800,000 Baht – or a pension certificate with a monthly salary, after-tax, of not less than 65,000 Baht/ 20,000 NOK, for example from NAV or insurance company (NOT selvangivelse or skatteoppgjør) –
    or a combination of a deposit account plus a monthly pension totaling not less than 800,000 Baht a year.

  • 4. Proof of accommodation: Copy of hotel reservation / rental contract/deed. In case of residing with a family, an invitation letter from the host family along with a copy of their undersigned Thai ID or house registration is required. The name of the applicant must be indicated clearly.

  • 5. Copy of residence card  or other evidence to prove that the applicant is legally residing in Norway (only for non-Norwegian and  passport holders)

REMARK: The embassy reserves the right to request additional information/documents according to the e-Visa system.

Validity of the visa

The validity of a visa is 90 Days.

Period of Stay

Upon arrival, travelers with this type of visa may be permitted to stay in Thailand for a period of not exceeding 90 days.

Non-Immigrant O-A (Long-stay)

Holder of this type of visa is allowed to stay in Thailand for 1 year.
Employment of any kind is strictly prohibited.

Applicants applying for a Non-Immigrant O-A visa for retirement purpose must be at least 50 years of age and above and receive a monthly pension income of 65,000 baht (approximately 20,000 NOK after-tax).

For foreigners staying in Thailand with this type of visa, notification of stay every 90 days with the immigration bureau is required.

Required Documents 

  • 1. Passport with validity not less than 18 months.

  • 2. Copies of Passport biodata page

  • 5. Photographs of the applicant, taken within the past six months. (white color background, taken within 6 months)

    – or an income certificate with a monthly salary, after-tax, of not less than 65,000 Baht / 20,000 NOK, for example from NAV or insurance company or Staten pengekasse (NOT selvangivelse or skatteoppgjør)

    – or a combination of a deposit account plus a monthly income totaling not less than 800,000 Baht a year.

  • 7. Copies of airline ticket (confirmed onward ticket – showing flights into and out of Thailand. Either paper ticket or confirmed e-ticket is acceptable)

    Must contain information about the airline you travel with, the name of the passenger, reference number showing that you have bought flight tickets, and dates and times of your departures.

    8. Document(s) of Police verification stating the applicant has no criminal record issued by the Norwegian Police (in English). The verification must not be more than three months old.

    9. Document(s) of Medical certificate from the country where the applicants apply for visa stating that applicants don’t have any prohibited diseases as follows;

    Leprosy, Tuberculosis, Elephantiasis, drug addiction, the third stage of Syphilis.

    The medical certificate must be issued no longer than 3 months prior to the date of submission.

    10. For medical insurance documents, the applicant must meet one of the following requirements: 

    10.1 The holder of a health insurance policy, issued by a Thai insurance company, must have:

    10.1.1 the health insurance policy with coverage of not less than 100,000 USD (or not less than 3,000,000 Baht), including COVID-19 treatments for the whole period of stay in Thailand. A list of Thai insurance companies participating in the scheme can be found here http://longstay.tgia.org

    Foreign Insurance Certificate for Alien to apply for Non-Immigrant Visa Type O-A (Period 1 year), signed with an approval stamp from the Thai insurance company. The form can be downloaded below

  • 10.2 The holder of a health insurance policy, issued by a non-Thai insurance company, must have:

    10.2.1 The health insurance policy with coverage of not less than 100,000 USD (or not less than 3,000,000 Baht), including COVID-19 treatments for the whole period of stay in Thailand.

  • 10.2.2 Foreign Insurance Certificate for Alien to apply for Non-Immigrant Visa Type O-A (Period 1 year), signed with an approval stamp from the insurance company.

  • This document must be legalized by the Notary Public and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway or the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland before applying for the Non O-A Visa.

  • 10.3 The holder of a social security scheme of Norway or Iceland, must have:

    10.3.1
     The letter of certification, issued by the relevant authority concerned with the specification of health insurance coverage of not less than 100,000 USD (or not less than 3,000,000 Baht), including COVID-19 treatments for the whole period of stay in Thailand.

  • 10.3.2 Foreign Insurance Certificate for Alien to apply for Non-Immigrant Visa Type O-A (Period 1 year), signed with approval stamp from the relevant authority concerned. The form can be downloaded below

  • NB: This document must be legalized by the Notary Public and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway or the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland before applying for the Non O-A Visa.

  • 10.4 In case the applicant is denied by an insurance company to purchase a health insurance with coverage of not less than 100,000 USD (or not less than 3,000,000 Baht), including COVID-19 treatments for the whole period of stay in Thailand. The applicant must have:

  • 10.4.1
    Official proof of denial, issued by the insurance company

    10.4.2 One or both of the following documents:
    • Other health insurance with coverage of not less than 100,000 USD (or not less than 3,000,000 Baht), for the whole period of stay in Thailand. In this case, the Foreign Insurance Certificate for Alien to apply for Non-Immigrant Visa Type O-A (Period 1 year), signed with an approval stamp from the relevant authority concerned must be signed with an approval stamp from the insurance company.
      The form can be download below and legalized by Notary Public and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway or Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland.

    • Bank statement with the amount of deposit of not less than 100,000USD (or not less than 3,000,000 Baht) for at least 2 months prior to the date of submission of the visa application. This is an extra amount from the minimum deposit of 800,000 Baht, which is the minimum requirement for NON O-A visa type.

      The bank statement must be accompanied by the letter of certification from the bank with confirmation that the deposit can be withdrawn for only the purpose of medical treatments in Thailand. The documents from the bank must be legalized by Notary Public and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway or the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland before applying for the Non O-A Visa.

 


The coverage of 9.4.2 (1) and the amount of deposit in 9.4.2 (2) can be combined with equivalent to the amount of 100,000 USD (or not less than 3,000,000 Baht).

Validity of the visa

The validity of a visa is 1 year.

Period of Stay

Travelers coming to Thailand with a Non-Immigrant O-A visa will be initially granted a stay permit of one year in the Kingdom according to the validity of the visa. 

For foreigners staying in Thailand with this type of visa, notification of stay every 90 days with the immigration bureau is required.

Visa applicants are suggested to submit the application at least 15 working days prior to the intended traveling date to Thailand.
