On 7 August 2026, H.E. Ms. Nitivadee Manitkul, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Norway and Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Oslo (ACO), hosted the ASEAN Day 2026 celebration. The event was attended by over 70 guests, including representatives from the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the former Norwegian Ambassador to ASEAN, former members of the Norwegian Parliament, and the diplomatic corps from ACO member countries and the ASEAN+3.
On this occasion, Ms. Vibeke Rysst-Jensen, Chief of Protocol, attended as the Guest of Honour representing the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and delivered congratulatory remarks to mark the 59th Anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN. In her welcoming remarks, H.E. the Ambassador emphasized the significance of ASEAN Day as a vital reminder of the association's founding spirit and its enduring role in fostering regional peace, stability, and economic prosperity. Her Excellency also highlighted ASEAN's determination and solidarity in navigating current geopolitical volatilities and global economic uncertainties through enhanced cooperation—both among its member states and with its dialogue partners, of which Norway is a highly valued Sectoral Dialogue Partner.
This year’s activities highlighted a presentation of signature noodle dishes from ACO member countries. Additionally, each embassy contributed an array of snacks, desserts, and beverages. The culinary showcase provided a wonderful opportunity to promote national delicacies, foster cultural exchange, and strengthen people-to-people relations among the ACO family and our international friends.
Additionally, as a special highlight during the event, participants not only posed with the traditional ASEAN-way handshake but also enthusiastically joined together to do the "Viking Row" pose!
