On 9 September 2022, H.E. Ms. Vimolbajra Ruksakiati, Ambassador of Thailand to Norway, met with Mr. Svein J. Liknes, CEO of OKEA ASA, and his management team. The meeting was also attended by Mrs. Gloyta Nathalang, Executive Vice President, Communication and Sustainability Activation, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, members of Thai media, and Ms. Potchamas Saengthien, Counsellor.
To develop the upstream sector, in 2018, Bangchak invested and became the principal shareholder of OKEA, a developer and operator of oil and gas fields in Norway. Together with Bangchak, OKEA has progressed into a leading mid-to-late-life operator on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS). OKEA now stands as an important part of Bangchak, especially in the long-term growth strategy and the commitment to sustainable development.
At present, OKEA owns or partly owns 7 oil and gas fields, namely Draugen, Brage, Gjøa, Yme, Ivar Aasen, Nova, and Hasselmus, together produced about 20,000 barrels of oil per day. Of all production, proportion of gas is about 1/3, while oil is about 2/3. Besides the production, OKEA is exploring possibility of oil and gas production in many locations of NCS. Most of the oil and gas produced by OKEA has been exported to many European countries.
Bangchak and OKEA aim to develop their businesses with the right balance, promoting corporate growth, while ensuring accessibility to energy. They also uphold the principle of sustainable development and protection of the ecosystem.
