On 3 December 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy in Oslo hosted a reception marking three auspicious occasions namely the Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, National Day, and Thailand's Father's Day with the presence of His Excellency Mr. Tomas Norvall, State Secretary of Trade and Industry, as the Guest of Honour. The event took place at the Grand Hotel and was attended by over 120 guests, including representatives from the Norwegian Parliament, Norwegian government and private sector officials, members of the diplomatic corps in Norway, and representatives of the Thai community in Norway.
In addition to honoring His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great for his whole life dedication to the country and Thai people, the reception marked the special occasion of 72th Birthday Anniversary Celebration of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua as well as the long journey of diplomatic relationship between Thailand and Norway paved by a month visit of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn The Great. Another highlight is the announcement of the successful conclusion of Thailand-EFTA FTA the week before.
The reception also provided an excellent opportunity for the Royal Thai Embassy to showcase Thailand's "Soft Power" under the 5F concept: Food, Fashion, Fighting, Festival, and Fun.
As part of the celebration, the Embassy invited a group of Thai dancers and musicians from the Thai community in Norway to perform traditional Thai dances. Muay Thai boxers also gave an engaging demonstration of Thai boxing, adding an energetic touch to the event. Furthermore, under the leadership of Her Excellency Ambassador Nitivadee Manitkul, guests were invited to join in traditional Thai dances, creating a festive atmosphere of iconic Thai celebrations like Songkran (Water Festival) and Loy Krathong Festival.
In highlighting Thai fashion, the Ambassador, along with Thai diplomats, staff, and community members, dressed in elegant Thai silk attire. This demonstrated the versatility of Thai silk, showcasing how it can be worn on various occasions, from formal events to special celebrations.
No Thai celebration would be complete without its renowned cuisine. The reception featured a variety of iconic Thai dishes, including Som Tam (papaya salad), Pad Thai (stir-fried noodles), Mango Sticky Rice, Tom Yum Kung (spicy prawn soup), Thai fruit carving, as well as Thai beer and Thai iced coffee. Guests were treated to a flavorful experience that captured the essence of Thai culinary culture.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Oslo extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported and participated in this special event. Photos capturing the highlights of Thailand's "Soft Power" can be viewed in this post.
