On 17 June 2026, Ms. Nitivadee Manitkul, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to Iceland, with residence in Oslo, Norway, travelled to Iceland to participate in the celebrations marking Iceland's National Day together with members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Iceland, including those resident in Reykjavík as well as those resident in Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, and London.

 

During the official reception hosted at the Presidential Residence, H.E. Ms. Halla Tómasdóttir, President of Iceland, remarked to Ambassador Nitivadee that she had had the honour of meeting Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand during the celebrations marking the 80th Birthday of His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden held in late April. On that occasion, Ambassador Nitivadee presented to the President a photograph of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand taken together with the President of Iceland and her spouse in front of the hotel where they were staying in Stockholm. President Tómasdóttir expressed her profound appreciation upon receiving the photograph, spoke highly of His Majesty the King, admired the grace and elegance of Her Majesty the Queen, and thanked Ambassador Nitivadee for her significant contribution to further strengthening the friendly relations between Thailand and Iceland.

 

Earlier the same morning, Ambassador Nitivadee attended the National Day reception hosted by H.E. Ms. Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland. During their conversation, the Ambassador briefed the Minister on the progress of Thailand–Iceland relations, noting that in September 2025 the Royal Thai Embassy had organised a reception in Reykjavík to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Iceland. The event was co-hosted by the Ambassador and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland. The Minister welcomed the significant progress achieved in bilateral relations between Thailand and Iceland.

 

On the same occasion, Ambassador Nitivadee also informed Mr. Martin Eyjólfsson, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, of the latest developments concerning the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Thailand and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), of which Iceland is a member. The Ambassador noted that the Parliament of Thailand had already ratified the Agreement and that it was therefore expected to enter into force in January 2027. Mr. Eyjólfsson expressed his appreciation and congratulated Ambassador Nitivadee on her important role in advancing the Agreement to its successful conclusion and entry into force following Thailand's ratification.

 

Ms. Andrea Sompit Siangboon, Honorary Consul of Thailand in Reykjavík, also attended both official receptions.
